The Feasibility of Liquid Fuel Derived from Coal

A lengthy article at PowerMag.com explores the viability of using liquid fuel derived from coal to help curb our dependence on foreign oil.

While the fundamental technology has been around for decades, high startup costs along with unknown long-term operational costs seem to make this a risky financial proposition.  Nevertheless, with the majority of the world's coal found in the United States it may be worth the investment.

Also of note is the money spent by the Department of Defense for the testing of coal-derived liquid fuels, emphasizing its commitment to domesticically-produced synthetic fuels.
