In the ongoing saga of coal ash impoundments a new bill would impose federal standards on coal ash storage. The bill, introduced by Nick J. Rahall, intends to guarantee the integrity of the impoundments.

Enough plaintiffs to fill four pages have filed a lawsuit against nine coal companies with operations in Boone county. Described as "residents and former residents of Seth and Prenter" the plaintiffs allege that blasting operations and underground mining around slurry impoundments have contaminated their water, damaged their property, and adversely affected their health.
